30 YEARS SELLING GM VEHICLES

We first opened our doors back in 1979 when Richard Lipscomb, our founder and--since childhood--a lover of American cars, took over the Chevrolet & Oldsmobile dealership in his hometown of Nocona, TX.  He had come into the business in the early 1970s by traveling with two fellow "car guys" up to Indianapolis and Detroit and hauling back pre-owned vehicles for wholesale to various Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac and GMC dealers in Texas.  Long before that, though, he was building his own racing go-carts and boats and "borrowing" his parents 1955 Chevy Bel-Air for late-night cruises down the drag in Nocona.  In ensuing years he moved the dealership to a larger, more modern building on Hwy 82 in Nocona, TX and in the late eighties Lipscomb Chevrolet bought out the Chevy dealer in Bowie, TX and the business of selling and servicing GM vehicles was relocated to this neighboring town in Montague County.  Lipscomb Chevrolet emerged from the economic downturn of the late eighties with the construction of an all new dealership, located on US Hwy 287 N. just north of Bowie, TX and in 1992 celebrated the grand opening of Lipscomb Auto Center, selling and servicing Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick and GMC vehicles.  It was another new beginning for a man whose passion for cars and whose good business sense was reflected in every customer he helped and in every vehicle his dealership sold and serviced. 

A few years later Richard's oldest son, Rik, began selling cars and learning the family business, a process he'd begun as a teenager while working in the washbay in back of the old Nocona dealership.  And so it was that in the late 90s Richard Lipscomb began handing over the reigns of the business he'd created to his son, so that he could focus more on restoring the family ranch on the Brazos River and work on his old cars.  In 2006 Rik expanded the Lipscomb Dealerships franchise to include Pruitt Ford in Burkburnett, TX and Lipscomb Chevrolet-Pontiac in Burkburnett, TX and, like the father who taught him the car business and a whole lot more, his own particular passion for quality, American-made cars and good business sense continue to be reflected in the great relationships Lipscomb shares with its customers, many of whom, like its staff, have been with the dealership for years--since back when the elder Lipscomb was selling Oldsmobiles in bell-bottoms.  And so it goes.  As with styles and fads, some makes of cars and some cuts of pants don't last forever, and that's just as certain as strong and weak economies.  But one thing is certain, America will continue to make its great cars greater, and backed by 30 years in the business, Lipscomb looks forward to selling them well into the future.
